Elf on the Shelf (part one)

This year a wonderful friend sent us Elf on the Shelf! { Thank you Sandra! :) }I had heard of it and kind of knew what it was about, but had never read the story. For those of you who don't know what it is, here's a brief description: Every year, Santa sends a little elf to each home to watch over the children and then report back to him whether they have been naughty or nice. The elf is magical and can fly all the way to the North Pole and back every night, he will lose his magical powers however, if you touch him. My kids like to test this by getting as close to him as possible without actually touching him. So you read this story to the kids, and it explains all about the elf and why he comes to stay with us during this time. Before I read them the story I put the elf out on the front porch,  and when we were done I started knocking on the table (they had no idea it was me) and told them someone must be at the front door. They were so excited to see that our elf had arrived!! Each family has to name the elf, so that was what we did right away. They each came up with a name {Alyssa-"Happy", Ansleigh- "Alfie", and Sophia "Dalon" (Dal-un)} we put each name in a jar and I picked one. The name I picked out was "Happy." So I went and wrote his name in the book on the blank line provided and we started baking cookies (Happy was very hungry from his trip all the way from the North Pole) but the girls all kept calling him Alfie, so I guess they changed their minds... typical girls for you. Anyway, we had cookies and talked about Alfie and all the places we thought he might hide from us; I forgot to mention that the elves are very silly and like to hide from you when they come back from the North Pole, and they never hide in the same place twice. They are also known to be very mischievousness and get into all sorts of things around the house. Sophia thinks he is going to be sleeping in the Christmas tree for sure, and Alyssa just keeps opening the refrigerator and telling him to get in there. We are very excited to look for him in the morning :)

He was last seen sitting on top of the microwave......
